Orbicularis Oris is the muscle around the lips, known as "kissing muscle". It causes horizontal wrinkles around the lips.

Orbicularis Oris can carry a lot of tension, but we usually don't notice it – until it relaxes. I've experiences this so many times by myself. If I'm in a hurry, I tend to skip treating this muscle, but every time I use a but more time for working with this muscle, it feels heavenly relaxing the whole area around the mouth feels so light!

If you think about how much we use this muscle every single day and how related it is to our emotions and expressions, it's no wonder that it can be very tense.

Anatomy of facial expressions: Masseter

Masseter is not a mimetic muscle although it's located on the face. It's one of the masticatory aka chewing muscles and can be very tense for those who suffer from bruksism.

On this video I show how I usually treat very tense masseter, which can be sometimes almost rock hard. I begin with very quick and light strokes and then follow with very slow stroke, keeping a firm yet light contact with the skin and my intention is to let the tension melt away. You might notice that I also use breathing and let my whole to body relax.
